Configuring your browser

If you are going to do more than just surf, then you must ensure that your Internet Browser is configured correctly.

Proxies

A proxy is a computer that sits between your computer and the Internet. In order to access the Internet, you must make sure that you configure your proxy settings correctly. The Netscape manual had further information on proxies

For a routed computer on the ACT Government network, the correct settings can be obtained from the help desk on 75 555.

For a computer on CSN, accessing the Interenet via a modem, the correct settings are:

Proxy  Port
FTP Proxy  proxy.csn.act.edu.au  3128
HTTP Proxy  proxy.csn.act.edu.au  3128

the number at the end of the proxy is the port. Computers on the EduNet network automaticaly detect their proxy settings. For more information on CSN settings, see the CSN help pages
