Corporate vs Internet Mail

EduNet uses two distinct mailing systems, corporate e-mail, run through the EduNet mail server, and Internet e-mail, run through the CSN server.

Your EduNet mail server is usually your school’s MAZE server. On it are stored users’ Outlook profiles, including calendars, address books, and so on. All these items can be shared with other users in the corporate mail system. This means everyone in the Global Address book can be given access to your Outlook information.

CSN looks after mail that is sent outside the corporate mailing system. In essence this means anyone who is not on the Global Address book – effectively anyone with an Internet address.

Note that:

Dingo Mail and CSN Internet mail are just different ways to access the same information.
If an account is set up correctly, all mail sent to the CSN mail server is accessed from the same PC as corporate mail – the user will see no difference. More on this below.
Although corporate mail automatically accesses your CSN messages, CSN does not access messages sent to corporate mail accounts. So if someone from another school within the corporate mail system sends you an e-mail, you will be able to access it from a corporate mail computer, but not from Dingo Mail.
DECS staff who are in the office (eg Manning Clarke House) are not members of the EduNet community and are not on the global address list. You will need to use a full Internet mail address to send to them. The format used for ACT Government names is first.last@act.gov.au, where first is the person’s first name and last is their surname.

End of Year Issues

Staff who are not checking their mail on a regular basis through the holidays (ie at home) should unsubscribe from outside mailing lists. (Subscribers can be left on Department mailing lists).

MOVING SCHOOLS
Staff moving schools should notify their change of address to  mailing list owners and other contacts.

CSN Coordinators: Staff moving schools should be left on CSN until the end of first term next year. It is the responsibility of the staff member who is moving schools to supply their previous school with their new e-mail address so that their mail can be forwarded for first term.
