To ensure all new documents have the file path displayed create a new template (with the file path enabled in the footer) and name it <normal2.dot>. Save this document in <C: drive/program files/microsoft office/templates> (or wherever your template files are located). Delete your <normal.dot> file and then rename <normal2.dot> to <normal.dot>. This becomes the default document whenever a new document is created in Word.
