Web Whacker
Web Whacker is a software package which allows the user to download
complete sites from the Web and view the resulting pages from the local hard drive.
It became popular when version 1.0 was distributed on a free CD, JumpStart,
to all schools.
Web Whacking helps to overcome the some of the difficulties associated
with students accessing the Internet.
The Web Whacker Home Page has a download
facility. Only recent versions or demonstrations are available.
The Web
Whacker Manual is available in PDF and Word formats, as well as FAQ's and other
information.
Other Off-Line Browsers
ACT Government schools have access to Microsoft
FrontPage via the Microsoft Software deal. An
interesting aspect of FrontPage is its ability to import complete web sites . This makes
it a powerful and useful substitute for Web Whacker.
Tucows has a range of
alternate software which does a similar job to WebWhacker for Macintosh, for Windows 3.1
and for Windows '95
