An attempt at a comprehensive list of search tools. Gives you an idea of how difficult a task this is! A great place to find specialising search tools.

EdNA

The Education Network Australia is a national project to support and link all Australian Educators. It covers all sectors, and provides a directory service of web sites, forums and mailing lists. It is the search tool for Australian Educators.

The Directory Service (Browse) is being developed around a set of standards and protocols governing content, metadata and management. Sites. An extensive search engine allows for searching of only approved EdNA sites, or only of sites "harvested" by the search engine from approved sites, or of both. The site also has extensive mailing lists, and is a primary source of information on on-line projects.

Frames makes this site a bit difficult to use.

White Pages

Telstra have extensive Internet support, including these excellent pages which parallel the printed White and Yellow pages. The search capability allows users to find phone numbers anywhere in Australia. Some capital city addresses are linked to the Whereis pages, making a map of the location available on-line. Foreign language and text-only versions are available.

Yellow Pages

Hytelnet

Everything you wanted to know about Telnet. This site is a minefield of information on this archaic Internet access tool. Includes links and log-in information for a vast number of Telnet sites worldwide.

Wereis

UBD street directories on-line. At present, only the Capital cities are included, but the list is growing. Check the copyright information before you start using the maps...

Tucows

While not strictly speaking a search engine, Tucows is included here as an excellent site for locating software. Software for Windows 95/08, NT, 3.x, Java and Macintosh is classified and rated and available for download. All items are given a rating out of five cows, although items that rate less than three cows are not  included on the site - an indication of the general quality of the available software. Each item is listed along with details of the file and license,  a brief description and contact details for the author.
